Positions in this function contact customers to determine reason for payment delinquency, negotiate and advise on collection of overdue bills and take appropriate action to recover overdue payments. Handling of unresolved inquiries / issues, and responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and managing organization policies on collection practices. May work with outside legal counsel and / or outside agencies in more complex collection cases.Primary Responsibilities:Follow assigned payer (Contracted / Government) guidelines when processing an appeal, reopening or written inquiryKeep up with assigned (Contracted / Government) payer and changesProperly document accountsReview and recommend write off (adjustments) of accountsIssue refunds with appropriate documentationMaintain Issue logResponsible for reporting problems and error to management in an effective and efficient mannerAttend and participates in departmental staff meetingsMaintain productivity standards as set by managementMaintain quality standards as set by managementOther duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:High School Diploma / GED or higher 2+ years of experience with call center customer service and / or office setting experience using the computer and phone as primary instruments of communicationPC skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word (creating and editing documents), Excel (creating and editing spreadsheets) and Outlook (email, calendar)Experience communicating with healthcare insurance companies / payersPreferred Qualifications:Background in a medical / healthcare settingHealthcare collections experienceKnowledge of third party payers processSoft Skills:Excellent communication skillsExcellent attention to detailGood organizational skillsStrong analytical and trouble - shooting skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to work overtime as needed, based on department needs Careers with OptumInsight. Information and technology have amazing power to transform the Healthcare industry and improve people's lives.
